<image:title>Welcome to my blog. Anxiety, Couples and Neurodivergence. - Rupture and Repair: an opportunity - Rupture and repair is a topic that I love to explore and support in clinical supervision. In this article I will outline how I approach rupture and repair both in my own therapeutic work and as a clinical supervisor. Rupture in the therapeutic setting reflects the humanness in the room. Ruptures include breaches, breakdowns, shifts in client body language (shut down/pull away responses), derailments, complaints, disagreements, projections, hurts, mis-attunements, a deterioration of the bond, etc.</image:title>

<image:title>Welcome to my blog. Anxiety, Couples and Neurodivergence. - My Journey with Emotion Focused Couples Therapy - My journey into EFCT began when I was just 19 years old. I was in my undergraduate degree at the University of Ottawa. Knowing at the time that I wanted to pursue an MA/PHD in Clinical Psychology, I started searching for labs to volunteer in to build up my knowledge as well as to build a relationship with a professor/researcher who may want to take me on as a MA/PHD student - yes this is how it works as the program is quite competitive. I was in a serious and committed relationship from the time I was 16 and so I was very interested in all things couples. I started volunteering in the Emotion Focused Couples Therapy lab. I only realized years later how big of a deal this was; I was working under the world renowned Dr. Susan Johnson. THE creator of one of the most trusted and effective forms of couples therapy.</image:title>

<image:title>Welcome to my blog. Anxiety, Couples and Neurodivergence. - Dealing with Guilt and Shame - Guilt and shame are both important emotions to the human experiences. Both guilt and shame shape our behaviour and are related to morality. From an evolutionary perspective, both these emotions are essential to ensuring that society functions in a cohesive manner. Though these emotions are important, they are emotions that are tremendously painful to experience. Therefore, it's necessary to learn to move through them in a conscious way. Depending our early interpersonal experiences, the frequency at which we experience these emotions can get out of hand and no longer be adaptive.</image:title>

<image:caption>Depression can cloud our way to clear thinking. The wise part of ourself is blocked out by this dark, confusing cloud telling us that nothing matters, no one loves us and that we are an awful person. We may know what we need in order to move through the depression but we cannot access this wisdom. And for those of us who have experienced depression, we also know that when it lifts, we have learned a lot. Utilizing our own wisdom is so important as what works for one person may not work for another.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Our beliefs about worry can tell us a lot about why we worry and why worry is sticking around. Even though worry can feel all consuming, awful, and debilitating, it is usually there for a reason and serves some sort of function for us. You may find that you have either a positive or a negative relationship with your worry. Perhaps you hate it and you try to push it away, which only makes it stronger. Perhaps you feel that you need to worry to succeed in some way, which also makes it stick around.</image:caption>

<image:title>Welcome to my blog. Anxiety, Couples and Neurodivergence. - Autistic Adults have Mental Health Concerns too! - Today I want to talk about diagnostic overshadowing. There are so many reports of autistic people being left without therapeutic support because they are autistic. I have often heard professionals say “ they are acting/feeling/struggling this way because of their autism”. This results in people being turned away from traditional mental health and psychotherapy services.</image:title>

<image:title>Welcome to my blog. Anxiety, Couples and Neurodivergence. - Lessening the Impact of Doubt and Exercises to Help you get There. - You know that little voice buzzing in your ear.. You think you’ve got a problem sorted but it tells you, “oh just maybe check again just to make sure, just incase” “I’m pretty sure it will happen this way, but what if…” “what if I missed something?” “what if I am doing the wrong thing?” yeah, that thing called doubt. It can creep in and take over.</image:title>
